KTM DUKE 125

Kraftfahrzeuge (Craftfardug)Trunkenpolz Mattigholfmen. Well its the name of the brand that’s you’ll be quite familiar all I did is just stretch it a little . KTM a brand that changed our perception about performance oriented motorcycles. However there’s one thing this brand has never represented which is efficiency well that could change with this motorcycle here.

Welcome to Down Shift and this is the all New KTM Duke 125. Whenever we see any motorcycles first and obviously is the design, the design comes from the KTM Duke 200 which was launched in January 2012 but has been reworked with the all new graphics and a 125cc batching so that it looks fresh and it still kind of does actually. And then we have a tendency to put the ignition on which is where we obviously come to the instrument cluster which again comes from the Duke 200 which even for 2018 standards is fairly advanced.

Now coming to the fair bit of interesting part which is at the heart of the matter the engine

Now this is an all new 124.7 cc engine This might be a 125cc but the power 14.5 PS at a very peaky 9250 rpm and torque of 12Nm at 8000rpm which is at par with some of the Premium 150cc motorcycles in the market today. Exhaust gas regeneration system which uses exhaust gases so that less energy is required to for combustion in the next cycle.

Closed loop fuel injection system which houses an oxygen sensor over the open loop system which helps in sensing of oxygen level in the air taken in which helps in altitude changes where the level of oxygen varies DOHC for better control of the valves in turn helping in better breathing of the engine. Now this engine is a short stroke big bore engine which means the piston requires less time to reciprocate which results in better acceleration while the engine revvs quicker. 6 speed transmission for higher top speed. Liquid cooling for better heat management. Now coming to the chassis which is a trellis frame with die cast aluminum swing arm which contributes to a light weight yet rigid setup coupled with the WP 43mm USD forks and the preload adjustable monoshock theoretically should contribute to a telepathic handling. .Fun ride dynamics have always been a KTM thing and 125 does live up to its expectations…………….

Now what first we can conclude that this is no ordinary 125cc.

Setting off you will need to rev this motor slightly more as the initial torque seems a bit lacking that doesn’t mean its not there. There is enough torque to keep you going but not get going fast but once the engine reaches 5000 rpm the going gets fast and inherent characteristics of KTM duke start to show giving you the power rush and because of the bigger bore the engine revvs quickly to 9000 rpm which is where the rpm is limited

because of the 150 section tyre the bike struggles to take momentum and as we know more the mass more the momentum required to move.

stretching the bike you will achieve a true top speed of 107kmph and as for mileage one will get 40-50 kmpl.

handling wise there were no complains as the chassis & suspension is very stiff which contribute to amazing feedback

the seat and the suspension could have been a bit softer for comfort.

the a slighty higher compression ratio does contribute to a high heat output so in traffic one has to expect fair amount of heat coming on to the legs and the engine temp. gauge in the higher section

firstly KTM’s performance package has met what the mass market wants “efficiency” Now given the fact that even as the motorcycle is diplaced under 125cc this doesn’t need ABS but still KTM is offering it which great

But all of this comes down to the pricing of 1.17lakhs ex-showroom.

it does look expensive but hey you get that premium KTM hardware for that extra buck like the instrument cluster, forks and back-lite switch gear and so on.

this not a motorcycle for some who has ridden or owned bike which are above 150cc definitely. Cleary this vehicle aim the people who are buying their first motorcycle and for those who are scootering it up and for the 100cc commuter.

We can finally say one thing we have KTM that is made for the mass market
